Helping kids use AI safely
Check each app's age rules, explore together, and teach kids that AI can be wrong and is not a friend or a person.
Key points
- Check the app's age rules. Many are for ages 13 and up. Some are for 18 and up. Some offer kid accounts that a parent watches over.
- Explore together, and keep names, addresses, school names and photos out.
- For homework, use it to explain and quiz, not to do the work. Follow the school's rules.
What the video says
Before your child uses an AI app, check the app's age rules.
Many apps require users to be at least thirteen, some eighteen, and teens may need a parent's OK.
With younger kids, sit with them and explore it together.
Teach them that AI can be wrong, and that it is not a friend or a person.
Remind them never to share their full name, address, school name, or photos of themselves.
For homework, use it to explain and quiz, not to write the work for them, and follow the school's rules.
And keep the talk open, so they come to you if something feels off.
Next: using AI at work.
